Installing Whonix 13 and Review on VMware
What is Whonix?
Whonix is a Debian GNU/Linux based security-focused Linux distribution. It aims to provide privacy, security and anonymity on the internet. The operating system consists of two virtual machines, a "Workstation" and a Tor "Gateway", running Debian GNU/Linux. All communications are forced through the Tor network to accomplish this. A web browser, IRC client, word processor, and more come pre-configured with security in mind. With Whonix, you can use applications and run servers anonymously over the Internet. DNS leaks are impossible, and even malware with root privileges cannot find out the user's real IP.Whonix Website: https://www.whonix.org/
Whonix 13 New Features and Improvements
- Within an isolated environment, research and evidence can be gathered without accidental exposure
- Anti-malware and anti-exploit modifications lower the threat of Trojans and back-doors
- Compartmentalized, anonymous internet use prevents identity correlation between social media (and other) logins
- The usefulness of threatening the ISP in order to analyze a target’s internet use will be severely limited
- Easy Tor setup (and options for advanced setups) gives users in repressive countries full internet access desktop-wide, not just in their browser
- Whonix does not silently upload identifying information in the background
