(Pocket-lint) – Amazon has activated a feature that’s bound to be popular. Instead of just showing random images when the screen is asleep, you can now show the cover of the book you’re reading.
Thanks to an E Ink display, the Kindle holds a picture when it goes to sleep – and now you can choose the cover of the book you’re reading to display, instead of that stack of pens or the old typeset .
It’s a great way to remind you of what you’re reading and pull you back into that captivating novel you’re halfway through.
How to enable cover art on your Kindle
Viewing the cover image is easy, but you will need a compatible Kindle and the latest version of Kindle software, which is not available in all regions at the time of writing.
Compatible models: Kindle (8th, 10th generation), Kindle Paperwhite (7th, 10th generation), Kindle Oasis (8th, 9th, 10th generation) and Kindle Voyage (7th generation). The easiest way to find your device type here is through your Amazon account.
You’ll also need an ad-free Kindle as the lockscreen art would obviously replace where the ads would appear.
If you meet all of these criteria, go to Settings > All Settings > Device Options and you should have the option to show covers at the top of the page.
Once it’s turned on, it takes on the art of the book you’re reading, whether it’s the latest bragging award winner or that guilty pleasure you found on the free list in Prime Reading.
