Microsoft is bringing its xCloud game streaming to Game Pass on Android next month, but enthusiastic subscribers can take the leap early and start playing today.

The cloud gaming feature is rolling out today in the official Xbox Game Pass (Beta) app for Android, meaning all Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can try out a limited version of the upcoming feature, allowing you to play a variety of technically demanding You can play Xbox and PC games on your phone, streamed from Microsoft’s servers.

Anyone can download the beta version of the Game Pass app, but you must be a subscriber to the monthly £10.99/$14.99 Game Pass Ultimate service to try out cloud gaming – as you will be, if it’s on September 15th.

Even the beta app does not include the full service. While more than 100 games will be available from launch, only about 30 will be available to play during the beta period.

“We are entering a limited beta period to ensure a smooth transition of the cloud gaming experience to the Xbox Game Pass app on Android,” Microsoft told The Verge.

“Existing users of the Xbox Game Pass (Beta) app will be given the opportunity to try a subset of available titles as we prepare the experience for broader availability next month. This limited beta is critical to providing members with the best possible experience at launch and should not be taken as an indication of the final experience or library.”

This beta is separate from the existing Project xCloud Preview, which has been running for a few months. This was free but with limited numbers and has now stopped allowing new players. Microsoft has said it will continue running the original preview until September 11, a few days before full launch.

The new beta and full service are exclusive to Android for now. Microsoft has blamed Apple’s App Store policies for preventing xCloud game streaming from working on iPhones and iPads because Apple restricts apps that give iOS users access to other storefronts and software — the concept at the heart of cloud gaming .

To join the xCloud Beta, simply download the Xbox Game Pass (Beta) app from the Play Store and subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate if you haven’t already.
