(Pocket-lint) – Instagram is testing a TikTok-style feature, showing full-screen videos on the homepage.

The social media network wants to “put more focus on videos,” it claims, and the design change means reels will become a more important part of the mobile app.

It already accounts for 20 percent of the total time Instagram users spend on the service, Meta revealed in an earnings call last week. With the new TikTok-like format, that could increase.

The test still includes top and bottom bars, but fills the rest of the screen with a video with overlaid text.

The screenshot at the top of this page is a mockup submitted to TechCrunch, but gives a good idea of what users can expect if and when the feature releases broadly.

Instagram also recently tested other new features, with the ability to pin other users’ posts to the top of a profile page, which is also in the works.

All of his tests are currently available to a select number of Instagrammers and may never make it to the main app, but the two suggested here sound reasonable to us. We will inform you about further discoveries.
