introduction

High-end features in a relatively affordable package. In a nutshell, that is the vivo V15 Pro. Or you could say that this phone is vivo’s attempt to bring everything we loved about the first vivo NEX to the mainstream. And thanks to the rapidly developing technology, we can even say that the V15 Pro has surpassed its more expensive brother in some aspects.

Of course, alongside the pop-up selfie camera and under-display fingerprint, the V15 Pro has to keep the overall cost down to make the cut. That includes a mid-range SoC rather than a flagship, but that doesn’t mean performance has been overlooked. The handset comes with a perfectly capable Snapdragon 675 chipset, and preliminary synthetic benchmarks suggest it could be the spiritual successor to the popular Snapdragon 660. And it should be more efficient too, since it’s based on a smaller 11nm node.

vivo V15 Pro specifications

  • Front camera: 32MP f/2.0, quad Bayer pixel array.
  • Battery: 3,700 mAh, Dual Engine Fast Charge 18W (9V/2A).
  • Connectivity: dual SIM; LTE Cat.12 download/ Cat.13 upload, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, dual band MIMO, 2×2 antennas, GPS; Bluetooth 5.0 A2DP, LE, EDR, aptX, microUSB 2.0.
  • Various: In-display fingerprint reader, motorized pop-up selfie camera.

In the camera department, Vivo thinks the V15 Pro excels, so it would be interesting to see where the 32MP front and 48MP rear cameras will take us. The ultra wide-angle snap on the back is a bonus here and only testing will tell how useful it really is. We’ve seen more than once even flagships fail with ultra-wide photography.

Unboxing the vivo V15 Pro

The handset comes in a standard retail package that includes all the user guides you’d normally find along with the microUSB(!) charging/data transfer cable and the charging brick itself. Vivo has also included a plastic case with side silicone bumpers for added protection. It is compatible with the pop-up camera mechanism.

Vivo V15 Pro in review

The charger is limited to 18W (9V/2A), so some sort of fast charge is on hand. Vivo calls it dual-engine fast charging, but we’ll take a closer look at it in the battery section.
