The service announced the feature ahead of the European privacy regulations that came into effect on May 25, 2018. It allows you to request and export a report of your WhatsApp account settings and information, including your contacts, profile photos, and group names.
Here’s how to download and view your WhatsApp data report.
When can you request your WhatsApp data report?
In April 2018, WhatsApp enabled a feature that allowed users to view and download their WhatsApp account settings and information.
This feature, called Request Account Information, is available to all users. However, your messages are not included. If you want to view your chat history instead, here’s how.
How to request your WhatsApp data report
To download your data report:
- Go to WhatsApp settings.
- Go to Account.
- Go to Request Account Information.
- Tap Request Report.
- The screen is updated sent on request.
How to download your WhatsApp data report
You cannot view the downloaded report in WhatsApp itself. You must use an external app in your share tray to export the report. For example, you can email a copy of the report to yourself. The report is in a ZIP file containing an easy-to-view HTML file.
- Go to WhatsApp settings.
- Go to Account.
- Go to Request Account Information.
- Go to Download report.
- A ZIP file will be downloaded to your phone.
- After the file has downloaded to your phone, select Export report.
When can you view your WhatsApp data report?
Your report will be available approximately three days after the requested date. You can refer to the “Done By” date while waiting. When the report is available, you will receive the following notification on your phone: Your account info report is ready to download. The Request Account Info screen in the app shows you how much time you have to download the report (just a few weeks) before it’s deleted from WhatsApp’s servers.
