(Pocket-lint) – Canyon has announced two new limited edition electric bikes ideal for urban environments, the Commuter: ON 8 and the Roadlite: On 8.

Both bikes are equipped with the new Fazua Ride 60 drive system with a 430 Wh battery. It delivers 60 Nm of torque and weighs 4.3 kg.

The drive system offers three power modes – Breeze, River and Rocket – meaning you can customize the amount of assistance you get while pedaling. You get up to 130 km (81 miles) of assistance in River mode, and of course this number depends on the rider, terrain and speed.

As the name suggests, these bikes are aimed at different types of riders, although they share a lot in common.

The Commuter:ON caters to those who want to haul some sort of load, so it’s outfitted with fenders and a luggage rack so you can attach your panniers and hit the road. There are built-in lights too, so you don’t have to worry about adding those.

The Roadlite:ON is more of a fitness bike with a flat bar – and at just 15.6 kg it’s also lighter than the Commuter:ON.

You can also remove the 10mm spacer from to give you a lower handlebar position for a more aggressive ride.

Both bikes are equipped with a full Shimano Deore XT drivetrain (in a 1 x 12 setup), giving you a perfectly rideable bike in most conditions, even without an electric drive. This sets them apart somewhat from those of the cowboy rivals who don’t have a full chain set.

Disc brakes are also standard, as are 40mm Schwalbe tires, while you can use the included smartphone mount with the Fazua app to take a closer look at your ride stats.

The Canyon Commuter:ON 8 and Roadlite:ON 8 are available now on Canyon’s website and will be available in August. Both cost £3,499 / €3,799.
