introduction

Hard to believe that Realme just turned 1 year old three months ago. Now in its fourth major generation of phones, the company seems to have finally found its identity – photography, performance and an on-trend design, all above the aggressively low prices.

The Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro are the first quad camera phones to hit the Indian market. The two new phones use different main and selfie cameras, but the quad-camera setup follows the same formula: main, ultra-wide, macro, depth sensor.

These two quad cameras represent a big leap for Realme, we’ll talk about them in a moment. First, a brief introduction to the two new cell phones. The Realme 5 Pro actually borrows some features from the Realme X, the highest-end model the company has released to date. The Realme 5 is the largest phone in the main series – it matches the X in terms of screen size and has the largest battery of any Realme phone.

Realme knows its audience – all of its phones have a 3.5mm headphone jack. And all but the X are dual SIM phones with a dedicated microSD slot. We’re not as fond of microUSB as the company seems to be, and if you’re like us you’ll be glad to know that the Realme 5 Pro has a USB-C port (but not the vanilla Realme 5).

Before we delve into each phone individually, we should say that despite their names, the two aren’t necessarily comparable. The Realme 5 has a bigger screen but 720p+ and a bigger battery but without fast charging.

The Realme 5 Pro features a 1080p+ screen and 20W fast charging, as well as an upgrade to both the main rear camera and the front selfie camera. But both the screen and the battery are smaller, while the price is (of course) higher. These are essentially two different devices aimed at different customers.

So let’s take a closer look.
