Source: Nintendo President makes brief apology for Joy-Con drift matter in Q&A
Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa briefly apologized for the ongoing Joy-Con drift issue affecting some Nintendo Switch owners in a recent Japanese Q&A (via Engadget).
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers regarding Joy-Con. We will do our best to ensure our customers can use our services and products with peace of mind,” Furukawa said, pausing to mention the drift problem, citing the lawsuit.
Buyers of Nintendo’s current flagship gaming console have seen issues where the Joy-Con controllers (usually the left one) register input when none are present. So a character or target can move even though you’re not using the analog stick.
This is obviously a bug, but Nintendo has been pretty tight-lipped on the matter, only offering to replace faulty controllers in some countries like the US, infuriating some gamers who had to buy replacement Joy-Cons instead.
Back in September, the Switch Lite was included in the ongoing lawsuit against Nintendo, suggesting the problem lies in the unibody version of the console and not just the original with detachable Joy-Cons.
It is believed that the design of the controllers wears down internally over time, resulting in incorrect inputs in some cases.
