(Pocket-lint) – Every Apple Watch since the Series 2 has had a Nike version. The latest Series 7 Nike Edition is essentially identical to the standard Apple Watch Series 7, but features redesigned Nike watch faces and Nike-designed Apple Watch Sport bands.
You can also get a Nike version of the Apple Watch SE (which is essentially the Apple Watch Series 5 in a different guise).
What is Apple Watch Nike?
For the Apple Watch Series 2, Apple has partnered with Nike to create a version of the Apple Watch aimed at runners – a partnership that has existed for models since the Series 2.
The Apple Watch Nike features a different strap design and slightly different watch faces than the standard model to make it easier for runners to use the device’s built-in GPS (and cellular).
Externally, the only difference is that there is a Nike logo on the back of the watch in addition to the Apple logo. A new Apple Watch Nike was released with every version of the Apple Watch after the Series 2.
The Apple Watch Nike costs the same as the standard Apple Watch versions.
What does the Apple Watch Nike offer?
In 2020, Apple introduced two different versions of the Apple Watch Nike with both the Series 6 and the SE (and then 40/44mm variants each, each with GPS and cellular variants). It then released an Apple Watch Nike version of the Series 7 in 2021, sitting alongside the Apple Watch SE Nike variant.
You get the same features as the Apple Watch Series 7 or SE, such as B. Built-in GPS, a waterproof design, and the option of cellular connectivity in addition to GPS, although it’s cheaper to get the version without it. The Series 7 also has blood oxygen monitoring, as well as a larger display than the Watch SE. The Nike Watch Series 7 model comes in 41mm and 45mm options, while the Watch SE Nike model comes in 40mm and 44mm options.
As with the standard Apple Watch, you can switch straps on the Nike variant. It is available with different case and strap combinations: there are silver and space gray aluminum cases with Nike Sport Band (rubber) or Nike Sport Loop (nylon). The Nike sports bands have a perforated design that is more durable and breathable.
As for the software, Nike has additional advantages over the standard version of watchOS: it gets exclusive Nike-themed watch faces, which includes a complication for directly launching the Nike Run Club app, which comes pre-installed and with which you can track your runs and that Running can view history and more.
The Series 7 2021 models have new colors for the Nike Sport Band and Nike Sport Loop. However, both the Nike Series 7 and SE models make use of things like the Nike Compact watch face, which also allows you to see multiple Nike Run Club complications.
