(Pocket-lint) – Google’s first in-house smartwatch appears to have been given a name – one that’s been circulating in media reports for years.

A new trademark filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office has revealed that Google’s first smartwatch will be called the Pixel Watch. With the filing, first spotted by 9to5Google, Google intends to trademark the term “pixel watch” for smartwatches and smartwatch accessories: “The trademark registration for pixel watches is intended to cover the smartwatch categories; cases adapted to hold smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smart watch straps; Smartwatch straps,” the filing reads.

The media has been calling the first “Made by Google” smartwatch a Pixel Watch for a number of years. Google is even expected to reveal or tease the Pixel Watch at next month’s Google I/O, and maybe even highlight some sort of Fitbit integration with Wear OS 3. The smartwatch is rumored to cost more than a Fitbit and could also compete directly with the Apple Watch.

Some images of the Pixel Watch (above) have also surfaced online, showing a premium design with a round face, slim and smooth bezels and crown.
