Fantasy RPG Godfall was the first game to be confirmed for the PlayStation 5 in 2019, and we got a better look at the gameplay during Sony’s PS5 game reveal in June 2020.

So interest is understandably high, but Counterplay Games will be keen for it to have a lasting positive impact.

The company has secured outside funding to help it achieve triple-A status for Godfall, which should help avoid the financial woes created by launching the previous game Duelyst via a Kickstarter campaign.

When will Godfall release?

Godfall has been confirmed to release during Holiday 2020, but we don’t have a specific release date yet.

However, expect it to be released just before the upcoming PlayStation 5 launches, especially given the platforms the game will be available on.

What platforms will Godfall be playable on?

Godfall has been confirmed as the first launch title for the PS5. It will be exclusive to Sony’s family of consoles, meaning Xbox players will have to jump ship to get in on the action.

PC players can download the game from the Epic Games Store, an online marketplace from the developers behind Fortnite. It will be an Epic Games Store exclusive for a year before making its way to other digital storefronts.

What can we expect from Godfall?

Godfall is divided into five realms (Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit) as players attempt to prevent a grand apocalyptic event.

“You are the last of the Valorian Knights, god-like warriors capable of wielding Valorplates, legendary armor sets that transform wearers into unstoppable masters of hand-to-hand combat. Players will shred enemies as they climb through some of the elemental realms and challenge the insane macro god that awaits at the top,” claims Counterplay on PlayStation Blog.

The game is described as a “looter-slasher,” meaning players collect weapons and other resources by destroying the randomly generated items found in the open world.

However, it will have a very different premise than many battle royale games, with a focus on melee attacks as opposed to firearms. This should mean that you need more skill when defeating opponents, since you can’t rely on a seemingly endless stream of bullets.

The available loot includes armor sets and flaming swords, among others. It seems that you’ll need all this protection when fighting multiple enemies at once and engaging in head-to-head boss fights.

In addition to regular single player gameplay, Godfall will be playable in co-op modes with up to three other players.

For more information, see the game’s reveal at The Game Awards in December 2019.
