Source: Sony confirms new PlayStation Plus release dates for the US and Europe
(Pocket-lint) – Sony plans to launch its new PlayStation Plus tiers in America in June, the company announced on Friday. They will be launched first in Asia on May 23, 2022, although Japan has a June 1 release date. America will then follow on June 13th, and a launch in Europe is scheduled for June 22nd. That means the new PlayStation Plus tiers will be generally available by July.
Sony first announced the new tiers last month. Back then, it confirmed an all-new structure for its PlayStation Plus subscription service. The new service will have three tiers in the form of Plus Essential, Extra and Premium, each costing a little more than the last but offering an expanded list of features.
- PlayStation Plus Essential ($9.99, €8.99 or £6.99 monthly): Corresponds to the current service and offers online multiplayer and a few free games every month.
- PlayStation Plus Extra ($14.99, €13.99 or £10.99 monthly): Adds a catalog of around 400 PS4 and PS5 games to play, downloadable for offline access. First off, Sony’s Jim Ryan has said that he doesn’t expect this list to include first releases when they first come out, but rather represents a back catalogue.
- PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99, €16.99 or £13.49 monthly): Adds another 340 games from PS3, PS2, PSP and PlayStation eras. Some of these are downloadable, others are available through game streaming.
The new tiers also signal the end of PlayStation Now, which offers a collection of PS4, PS3 and PS2 that you can install or stream on a PS5, PS4 or PC.
According to Sony, PlayStation Now will be integrated into the top tier of PlayStation Plus to maintain its game streaming offering, and existing users will switch between membership types.
